FIDE Picks Breast Implants as a Sponsor for Women's Chess

When I read the headline, I thought that the creators of the lichess blog had confused September 30 with the first April.
FIDE has taken a good decision according to me but I don't think everyone would welcome that!
When I told a female friend about it she said and I quote "Who cares, I am here to play the game. Fuck FIDE. I don't care about FIDE"
breast implants look bad, are unnecessary and have caused lots of health risks for women during and after the surgery. picking a sponsor like that is terrible and i cant understand why chess fans (who are supposed to think logically) would get anywhere close to such kind of company.

if they had a sponsor for penis enlargement offering them the best deal for the next world chess championship they would probably run in some doors trying to find a more prestigeous settlement, which makes this disrespectful and foolish.
if your not lazy and do your homework instead picking the first shady business that will fill your -own- pockets it should be very easy to find a sponsor who isnt ruining your reputation and dragging your association down in the dirt.

i can see why this falls into some liberal free market area and you can always fall back on that (unlike the breast cancer argument, which is just invalid) but imo they are sending alot of wrong signals.
a chess site talking about breasts uh...
am i the only one uncomfortable now...
At first I thought this was an Onion article.

While providing breast augmentation to women who have had mastectomies is a good thing, and providing cosmetic surgical procedures to consenting adults is rather neutral, I think this is a tone deaf cash grab in an organization that has a history of making tone deaf cash grabs.

A sport that is trying to appeal to girls and young women should not be sponsored by a company that receives the lions share of its profits from capitalizing on women's insecurities. A sport that prioritizes a keen mind coupled with steely nerves should not reinforce the message that breast size is also important.

This is similar to other sports who are sponsored by betting companies, or payday loan companies - legal? Yes. Immoral? A bit grayer. Predatory? I'd argue yes, and there should be a responsibility to take a few dollars less and find a better sponsor.
Nigel Short is the only person who supports this sponsorship. He welcomes the increased excitement after he delivers checkmate.
