I understand that the *best* solution is the mate pattern. However, in a normal game, I think there's a more appropriate solution.

Would Rxf4 Kxf4 e5 win the queen?

Rxf4 leads to Ke3..
Stockfish auto generates *forced* moves. if the moves are not forced for the other, you cannot get a favourable position for yourself, and lose your chance to get a winning situation. Hence, the only good possibility was checkmate in this case.
