General Chess tips

Here are some pointers that could help the beginner player improve his chess.

1) Tempo:

Tempo is simply defined as time, or in chess terms, a turn.
Since white is first to move, white is ALWAYS a tempo ahead, and its important to ALWAYS maintain this time imbalance.

for example, consider the move sequence, 1.Nf3 Nf6 2.Nf1!?
How does Black punish white? it looks like white is giving up his tempo advantage but this is actually a clever trap,Black should realize that he shouldn't mess up the time imbalance and thus has to play 2..Nf8! (only move), thus restoring white's one move advantage.

2) Openings:

Many of players waste their precious time learning opening theory, this need not be the case since i can prescribe a formula that make opening play much easier.

The principal is simple, Black should realize that since its impossible to blunder in the first few moves, he should simply copy white's opening play as to get a symmetrical and equal position.

Consider this example: 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nf6 Nxe5 Nxe4 and so on, black achieves immediate equality but he must be careful not to continue copying white since after the opening phase blunders ARE possible.

3) The center:

Before we begin this section, we must ask ourselves, what is the center? the truth of the matter is that the center in chess is not simply a collection of central squares, nor does it have a geographical location. it is simply the area in which your pieces are concentrated.

As a rule, the center must always be fortified, as an example, after the move 1.d3, the center has been established at the point d3, therefore, we must fortify this point by bringing all our pieces as close as possible to the square d3, this is done by playing Nc3 now or later, followed by e3 , Bd2, and Be2. thus completing our center.

I will try to post more tips as soon as i get more free time. thanks!
This is really ? "The principal is simple, Black should realize that since its impossible to blunder in the first few moves, he should simply copy white's opening play as to get a symmetrical and equal position."

(im beginner)
The second point is ridiculous.
If you want not improve, do that.
This has to be a joke.. Do the opposite of this thread and you will be fine .
4) Pawns need at least 1 empty square on all sides so they can move freely. Try to avoid placing them too close together.
"This is really?" Summarizes Nietzsche's definition of greatness. This thread made me laugh, and pleases me.

Thanks Bourbon (and others)!

" Nietzsche's definition of greatness"...That is: "Cynically, and with innocence"

You can verify that 2.Nb8 is indeed the best move by referring to lichess's master database .
