How to improve from 1300-1400

Besides do tactics as the friend above said.

I really recommend play classical games
- Bullet is fun
- Blitz is good to test your knowledge
... imho just at classical games you can enough time to thinking and play deeper moves.

CC is excellent to improve your chess. But the most people make the same error, they respond all moves so fast, like a blitz game at cc, you need time to think about your move. Not make them by intuition.

A computer analysis of your games will show you where you blunder. Take note of how many times you do the same blunder. It could be as simple as leaving a free piece to come under attack. If you are not noticing two pieces attacking a particular square, than that is a big oversight. This happens when you are not looking at what your opponent plays. Pre-moves and playing too fast causes these blunders.
Everybody most check for piece safety, which means checking both your pieces and the pieces of your opponent. This is the easiest way to gain a material advantage. Many pieces can move on a chessboard, so search for a piece that is defenceless and exploit it. Check the safety of a move before placing it onto an unsafe square.
I like software that lists the candidate moves. I do not look at the list of best moves until I find the move I want to play. Then I look to see where my move stands in the list. If the candidate move is located near the bottom of the list, I know it will be a major blunder.
If this site had a statistical list of our blunders, this list could help us improve. You will automatically improve as you correct those common blunders. When you can spot the easy exchanges caused by lack of mobility, you are ready for the next step, like capturing the active pieces. A bit like target shooting, were we learn by exercising on stationary targets (training puzzles) before working on moving targets (Bullet games).
Over the past few months, I improved my classical rating has gone from 1200 to 1500.

I noticed that environmental factors greatly affect my play. I play much better in the morning, and when I'm not stressed, than in the evening or during stressful times.

Some things people suggest a lot really do improve my play, such as...
...tactics puzzles. They're fun, and they improve your play.
...opening puzzles. They might not be fun, but they do help you improve your early game play. Just switch to furry porn if someone walks in on you - it's easier to explain.
...Correspondence and Classical games. My rating took a turn for the better when I stopped playing blitz regularly.

Some things people suggest a lot did not work for me, such as...
...actual studying of openings. I found this prohibitively boring. When my rating stops improving, I might start, but egad is it dull.
...taking a 2-3 day break. This didn't leave me refreshed, it left me anxious, and my play wasn't any better afterwards.
...watching instructional chess videos. Sorry, most of these are extraordinarily boring and long-winded, and even the ones that are actually entertaining (MatoJelic's King Hunt series, e.g) aren't that helpful.
I still think that everyone can reach a level around 1800 just with decent tactics skills
Electro-shock tied into the software Toscani uses.....Must patent that idea before facebook thinks of it...
if you want to progress your game...you need to learn "basic chess principles" If you do you will learn about pawn structure..relative value of the pieces..ranks and files..pins and discovered check..value of the pawn..castling early etc..you must study endgame ...at least basic end game techniques..knowing endgame can help your decisions because a simple material advantage can be used to win in the endgame...if you know how.and...play play play... experience will improve your game if you can learn from your mistakes...play bullet at your own peril...that's crazy chess...and make sure you know all the rules of chess :]
I see you do play a lot of bullet...try playing some low time classical...such as 5/12... 5/8 or longer until your skill improves. believe me the bullet players know their "basic chess principles" if you can think abit longer you can learn to apply these principles and your game will improve and your bullet game will also improve:]
